I have a very large file (120k people and 12k photos/documents) that I frequently run GenMerge to remove duplicates. I recently ran into a strange error when loading a fresh file into the Family Tree Maker program. I contacted support and Sue was very helpful in helping me resolve my issue. I’ve had GenMerge for about 1.5 years and I’m very satisfied with this product.

Biggest Pro: Can find duplicates in large files quickly; can merge other trees into my tree
Biggest Con: nothing that I can find yet.

The product does not recognize gedcom files downloaded from Ancestry.com or FamilyHeritage.com. The support is non-existent. They do not have a working phone support and they do not answer emails to their support URL. This company appears fraudulent. The 4 and 5 star ratings are probably from company surrogates. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT! Use the 10 day trial IF it works and then abandon the company.

Biggest Pro: absolutely none
Biggest Con: they are a total con

Well to be absolutely honest, I just can’t see the point of this program as it offers no more facilities than are already included as one utility within the vast majority of full-blown family history database software on the market, including free products such as Legacy Essentials, RootsMagic Essentials, Gramps etc., etc.

This product is limited to providing the ability to match and merge Gedcom Files for a ‘mere’ 30USD after a 10 day free trial!!! What’s the point when you then have to import the merged file into a comprehensive family history database package to do anything else; and one which, in all probabilit,y already has the capability to match and merge individuals for no additional cost.

Anyone who purchases this product must have more money than sense.

Biggest Pro: At least it does do what it says
Biggest Con: The cost of the program is outrageous, given that it does no more than can already be done in the vast majority of Family History database software.

Terrific program! I was tearing my hair out trying to do this task. GenMerge did the trick and lickety-split. Amazing. I don’t even have to cancel my subscription because they didn’t ask for money. Love this!

Biggest Pro: Quick and accurate!
Biggest Con: None

Very useful tool especially if you use multiple genealogical services like My Heritage, Geni where you need to combine data that gets added automatically

Biggest Pro: Combines and matches profiles from multiple gedcoms

A utility for merging GEDCOM files. The best program I have found for this purpose. Also cleans up GEDCOMS of unattached individuals, duplicate data, multiple parents, etc. Can merge multiple GEDCOMS at a time. Struggles with massive files. Output is not perfect, but close.

Biggest Pro: Does as advertised.
Biggest Con: No updates or upgrades for years. Output not perfect, so all results have to be closely checked.
