A free multiuser online online genealogy application that tracks family relationships, events, and personal biographies and photos. Fully compatible with GEDCOM, it allows for real time editing and sharing of family trees. This is an Open Source project. This is where you go to help with the development of SharedTree. It is written in the language PHP with a MySQL database.

I signed up for this free very appealing geneology site a few years ago and have worked at it of and on during those years. During this time every other login attempt was unsuccessful. The server was either down or the site had collapsed. I paid for an ancestry.com site that has been reliable since then. I have now lost all my hard work and my latest login did not show a single relative or family name. What a big disappointment. I will advise anyone interested in compiling a family tree to stay far away from this site. By the way, numerous emails to the help desk resulted in no response. Why is this site even up???

Not Rated

It seems to be the only free collaboration site which is simple to input information and allows import and export of gedcom files. I don’t want to get stuck using something that might go out of business or get sold and not be able to take my input with me if I choose to use a different site.

Biggest Con: Userbase seems low
