ohmiGene

by Thierry Nauze
A program from France developed for Windows and Mac. Adheres strictly to GEDCOM standards and also reads and writes a GmC format. The author passed away in 2014. Website was in French. There was also an iPad version available.

This was a very promising, very full featured piece of software, if sometimes quirky, but it was the product of a one man development shop and sadly Thierry Nauze passed away in July 2014. His family looked for someone to take over the project but didn’t seem to have managed to do so. The website is currently gone.

Biggest Pro: Full featured, good handling of media and locations
Biggest Con: Quirky interface

5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5

A great little program with plenty of good features. Reads and writes GEDCOM and can also attach media of various kinds. Slightly clunky and some Frenglish terms and explanations but understandable enough.

The website seems to be down and I cannot get the iPad version and it’s not on the app store.

Biggest Pro: good interface for moving between related persons
Biggest Con: not the most intuitive at times
