I’ve used SFT for years now as my main family tree builder. The largest of my trees has 15,000 individuals. I tried out more advanced software a couple of times, but to date I haven’t found a better one to accommodate my research. It’s very user-friendly and ingenious in its simplicity.
SFT displays a navigable hourglass chart - an essential feature you won’t find in any other offline tree generator. Right clicking an individual on the tree opens a window which allows you to edit their information. You can add large notes, up to six events (other than birth, marriage and death), an additional name and up to four marriages per person. Linking a photo is also an option. SFT also allows for same sex marriage. Your tree is saved as a GEDCOM file which is compatible with all the major sites and software.
Two cons are the software’s inability to link sources and its limited dating format.

Biggest Pro: Navigable hourglass chart
Biggest Con: No source linking

The user screen is a family tree chart. Click an individual’s box and the tree adjusts to its ancestors and descendants. Right-click a box and one simple form appears, for entry of children/parents, notes and marriages.

The output is written instantly to a GEDCOM file, which then imports to any other software, including charting programs like Genbox or web presenters like Tribalpages.com. This program is impressively compact, tiny actually at 250 KB. Its simplicity and directness makes it my favorite for tree building, having worked for decades with the dozens of popular products like TMG, FTM, PAF and BK.
