I have used and tried out many DOS and windows genealogy programs over the last 20 years.
Some were good, some were basic, many were awful - and most are no longer available.
I stayed with PAF for many years but it was now time to get something better.
I didn’t need all the bells and whistles, so Scion was ideal to sort out my tree of about 2500 people and 600 families.
There were wrong names, unconnected people, wrong dates, all sorts of things that I was finally able to put right using Scion.
If you want your hand held, fancy reports and signs, or a huge program then this is not for you.
Otherwise it’s great.
Biggest Pro: Very thorough, good audit and other reporting, small footprintBiggest Con: The data file size is larger than other software, need to use it for a bit before all becomes clear
After figuring out to enter, then connect people. I love it! The only reason I don’t give it five /five, is the mere fact it encourages same sex unions to be entered.
Biggest Pro: Features, webpage creation, small “footprint” on my harddrive.Biggest Con: the way the creators of the program seem to encourage same sex unions.
I don’t think it creates charts that are useful for me. I felt it promised far more than it delivered. It sounded good on paper, but on my PC? I am not going to keep using it as it is so disappointing. I guess you get what you pay for,
Biggest Pro: freeBiggest Con: the charts and navigating to find other family is very basic.
Excellent. Pedigree, descent, sources, attachments and all from a usb
Biggest Pro: it runs on USBBiggest Con: no multiple selection for deleting rubbish notes imported with your gedcom
